Managed service playbook for MSPs

Make shadow AI a recurring service,
not a one-off scan.

A single assessment finds the AI tools a client uses once. A service finds them every month, shows the client what changed, and keeps the paper trail their auditor or insurer will ask for. This page shows how to run it for every client you look after, and what to charge.

We keep the AI-tool data current. You bring each client’s network export and your own brand.

Why now

The questions clients are bringing to their IT provider

Three questions come up in almost every conversation about AI this year. An MSP that answers them every month has something to sell.

“What AI are my people actually using?”

Owners suspect staff use free chatbots, transcription bots and browser add-ons, but have no list and no way to produce one on their own.

“Is our data going somewhere it shouldn’t?”

Some tools keep and learn from whatever is typed into them. Clients want to know which ones before a contract or a patient file ends up there.

“Can you show we have this under control?”

Auditors, insurers and larger customers now ask how AI use is governed. The client expects its IT provider to have the answer on paper.

The numbers

One paid assessment covers the $249 plan for 6 months. With the same fee, every additional client is margin.

You invoice
$1,500

A typical one-off fee for a first shadow AI assessment of a 30-person office.

You pay us
$249/mo

Your MSP plan: 10 white-label assessments every month.

You keep
$1,251

Left over from the first client in month one, before any monthly fees.

Figures are illustrations. Your own client prices decide the margin.

The service

Discover, report, document

Each stage is a deliverable you can name on a quote. The data behind all three is maintained by us every day.

Stage 1 · Discover

A white-label shadow AI assessment

Upload a client’s DNS, proxy or firewall export. The assessment names every AI tool in use, rates its risk, says whether it learns from user input, and applies the client’s sector policy. Your logo on every page.

About the white-label assessment
Stage 2 · Report

A usage report every month

Assess the client again each month and send a one-page report: new AI tools, risky ones, and what changed. The part of the service the client actually reads.

Monthly AI Usage Report
Stage 3 · Document

A compliance register per client

Keep a running register of every AI vendor the client has used, its data terms and how it was handled, cross-referenced to the frameworks auditors and insurers use.

AI Compliance Register

Want to enforce as well as report? Pair the service with the AI Tools Blocklist firewall feed, which blocks disallowed tools on SonicWall, FortiGate and DNS filters.

Where to start

Clients that will buy it first

Lead with clients whose data is regulated or confidential. Each one has a ready sector policy.

Medical and dental practices

Patient details in a public chatbot are a privacy incident. A monthly view of AI use is easy to justify.

Law and accounting firms

Client confidentiality is the business. Partners want proof that files are not going into free AI tools.

Defense-supply manufacturers

CMMC assessments ask about external services. The register gives them a record to show.

Financial advisers and insurers

Regulators and carriers ask about data handling; AI tools are now part of that question.

Schools

Student safety policies need to cover companion and adult AI apps, and parents ask about it.

Any growing office

Every client over 20 people is using AI tools. The first assessment usually surprises the owner.

Do I need to be a security specialist to run this?

No. The assessment does the identification and the risk rating. Your part is the client conversation and the recommendations, which you write once and reuse.

How long does a monthly cycle take per client?

Exporting the log and uploading it takes a few minutes. The usage report and the register update themselves from each assessment.

What if a client has no firewall logs?

DNS filter exports and proxy logs work too. Clients can also upload their own export through a branded link you send them.

How many clients can I run on one plan?

The MSP plan includes 10 full assessments a month. The Monthly AI Usage Report add-on adds 15 more, so up to 25 clients can be assessed every month.

Does our company name appear anywhere?

No. Reports carry your logo, colour, contact details and your own wording.

Can I try it first?

Yes. Run a free check on a client export, and look at the sample usage report and the sample register.

Take the first step

Turn your next client meeting into a recurring service.

Start with one assessment. If it does not start a conversation about AI, cancel. The MSP plan has no lock-in.
